RECYCLING CONCRETE:
Concrete makes up almost half of demolished material and construction waste, and can be recycled by concrete crushing plants to produce road base and back-fill materials. Additional uses for recycled concrete include; erosion control, retaining wall and flood control projects. There are 44 states that now use and encourage the use of recycled concrete as a road base. Between 1994 and 1996, the use of recycled concrete aggregates in new concrete mixes increased by 170 percent. A significant benefit of using recycled concrete is that it has the capability of producing a product that when mixed with water is fast and strong setting. Environmental consciousness and concerns may be reason enough to recycle – it is unfortunate that most recyclable concrete ends up in landfills with a small portion being disposed at recycling plants to create reusable products. A primary and practical concern for industry is cost, and the disposal cost of concrete is a major issue. Solid waste recycling facilities typically charge 75 to 90% (depending on location) less than the price of landfill charges. Processed recycled materials are about 25% less in price than virgin materials with comparable, and in many cases, better results for customer projects. In the six years that we have been producing GREEN concrete aggregates we have had sucess ranging from small quatites to vast quantity projects at our 74th street plant in Tacoma WA.
Our recycled products include 1”1/4minus, 2”minus, 4”minus, 2”-6”coble, Ecology Blocks.
